Wow.

Wow indeed, it seems that they got a lot more data than they dared to
expect. I of course could not see the pictures, but I trust a press conf
will occur when the data has been roughly processed. It is unfortunate that
ESA cannot do the publicity stuff anywhere near as well as Nasa does, due to
their beaurocracy.

Makes up a bit for last years Beagle fiasco.

NASA will post the pictures too, I'm sure, unless there is some
bureaucratic reason that forbids them to. :-)

Space exploration is a crapshoot. If you want Huygens experiments that
work, you have to take Beagle experiments that don't. All part of the
same package. I'm sure that one reason NASA/JPL's last few Mars
robots have worked is that previous ones didn't, and they had the
sense to learn from their mistakes instead of just mourning them. I
bet the ESA is doing the same with Beagle.

And Mars Express is about as far from a fiasco as exists. :-)

Yup.

Btw, did they ever figure out what happened to that lander
that just disappeared?

Not yet, or if they have, they haven't been telling anybody outside of
the office.

Had a look at the ESA web site with the Titan pics yet? Stunning is
too mild a word, although I do think that the ESA should hire some of
the NASA web site developers and writers to revamp a few things.
NASA has learned that it needs to sell itself to a sometimes-sceptical
public if it wants to keep getting funded. The ESA needs to learn the
same thing. But I'm sure they will. :-)

Yes. There was a special on TV the other night. Fascinating.
Next stop Europa?
