 | Wash. GOP levels specific fraud charges
Seattle, WA, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Washington State Republicans have given a judge a list of specific irregularities from the November election, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer said Wednesday.
The list, the most comprehensive yet put forward, was given to a Chelan County, Wash., Superior Court judge as Republicans pressed ahead with their challenge to Democrat Christine Gregoire's election.
The GOP said preliminary comparisons of a statewide voter file obtained Saturday from the secretary of state's office and other databases showed evidence of voter fraud and other election irregularities including: 437 provisional ballots that were counted without first being verified; 37 felons who cast illegal ballots; 20 people who voted in Washington and another state; and 10 people who voted twice.
The Republicans want to speed up the fact-finding portion of their challenge. Republican candidate Dino Rossi and the GOP are challenging the certification of Gregoire's 129-vote victory after a hand recount. Rossi narrowly prevailed in the first two tallies of the 2.9 million ballots.
Superior Court Judge John Bridges is scheduled to hear arguments Thursday for and against expediting the fact-finding. Republicans said they would oppose the Democrats' request for an outright dismissal on the grounds that only the Legislature has the constitutional authority to settle a contested gubernatorial election.
