 | * SA police to charge 40 'scam MPs' *
Forty members of South Africa's parliament will be charged with fraud on Monday, police say. Full story: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/-/1/hi/world/africa/4195635.stm
This is all over the international news and it represents a disgusting situation where South Africa's image abroad is tarnished and the rest of the world thinks all of our politicians are crooks. This situation brings South Africa into disrepute and something must be done about it.
The government should immediately revive and extend the ban on reporting crime statistics in order to protect the reputation of our hardworking MP's who do not deserve this slanderous treatment from the white reactionary media.
MP's should also be immunised from prosecution by political opportunists that seek ways to slander our beloved MP's and undermine the democratic order that continues to be established on the toil and sweat of the masses. _______________________________________________________
See here what follows is another example of a patriotic hero who has been driven from office by those who see empowerement as a crime. These people will stop at nothing to achieve their anti revolutionary purposes. They will even bring South Africa into disgrace if they can have the pleasure of exposing just one crime.

I have read the reports in the overseas South African press that unveils the sinister plot to draw skilled South Africans away from their homeland. The SA Times cannot be wrong and it can be seen that these young people are driven away by slanderous propaganda that is presented by unscrupulous people who would have us believe that they are exposing corruption when their only motive is to undermine our emergent democracy. We must therefore control the news output in order to frustrate the so called exposers. Our Members of Parliament should be given the liberty to express their creativity through travel and consumption. To this end we should allow them some margin for expression.
We should silence the so-called corruption busters that drag our name through the mud. The Members of Parliament are heroes of the struggle that deserve our eternal gratitude and we should not be led into treating them with disgrace. If we start harrasing the Members about small things like this then who knows what will be next - even The Beloved President or the Deputy President will not be safe.

Will those that plea-bargain be allowed to stay on as MPs - even though their likely punishment would have precluded this?

Ey this plea bargaining is getting really creative in SA and some magistrates and judges are falling over each other to find ways of sleushing the criminals. The latest deal is a Natal south coast magistrate who will let you have a reduced sentence if you make a stipulated donation to his favourite Tsunami relief fund.
He has lost the plot here in a number of ways:
1. His task as a magistrate is to administer justice and punishment, not merely to collect money whether it is on behalf of the state or a noble cause. His mindset seems to be driven by the same concept that forces traffic officers to work to quotas in the collection of fines.
2. The miscreants derive no spiritual benefit from the exercise. They have not given willingly to the cause, they have been coerced. They derive no benefit from repentance for their crimes as they see that they have gotten off with half of a fine and prejudiced the system.
3. There is a degree of misappropriation present as the money should be used for the maintenance of the system and the magistrate does not have a mandate from the governing authority to divert funding like this. The funding goes to India and a contributor may wish to support his own cultural brethren in Somalia. Some may say that I am being mean, but if the magistrate wishes to help the Tsunami victims he should use his magisterial influence to organise a concert.
