Dude, ask your News administrator to run checkgroups. Don't use semicolons
without proper training.

The groups not completely dead, it's semi-colon-ised.

I fear persuading the admin is the only way.

Sorry for the x-post with alt.config. I thought I was not able to
receive this newsgroup but I was wrong.

On host lut.fi there is an extra group named sfnet.test;
Note the semicolon.

This was an attempt to make the group disappear, but without success,
since the group is still there.

Olisin kyllä voinut jo etukäteen arvata, että ihan turha yritys. :-)

Mielestäni tärkeintä olisi saada ISC:n ryhmälista ajantasalle, kun
ainakin pari palvelinta näyttää seuraavan vain sitä.

Vain arvata, koska vastaavalla menetelmällä olen joistain koneista
onnistunut väärin kirjoitetun ylimääräisen ryhmän poistamaan.

Joistakin niin, mutta ainakin ryhmäpeittosivun olemassaolon aikana
news.lut.fi on viis veisannut rmgroupeista (tokihan sieltä on joitakin
ryhmiä poistunutkin, mutta nekin luultavammin muista syistä).
Sitäpaitsi jos palvelin lisää minkä tahansa ryhmän joka sattuu olemaan
jonkin artikkelin Newsgroups-rivillä (mitä se on ainakin aikaisemmin
tehnyt), niin ei ole kovin mielekästä yrittää korjata sen ryhmälistaa.

I suggest you to contact the newsadmin of that server to get it
removed. There is a chance the badly named newsgroup leaks to other
servers.
