In the fall of the year we moved out here, we found black walnuts all
over the place but didn't think much of it until someone ran over a
bunch with a car. Under all the mush were a lot of nifty looking nuts.

After cracking and tasting a few, we decided these were a gift from
heaven. We worked out a method of removing the husks, cracking the
nuts and gleaning the meat has has become a pleasant winter pastime in
front of the fire.

Requesting Cryptography Manifesto.

This is a U.S.-centric message, but keep reading even if you are not in the
U.S.; British, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand citizens are also directly
affected.

This message is about ECHELON, which is an unbelievably huge world-wide
spying apparatus, including the domestic phone calls of many countries.

United States citizens' phone calls are being monitored in a dragnet
fashion not even George Orwell could have imagined.

This was all paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

Built in secret. Not debated.

The CALEA legislation is a shameful takes-us-into-the-abyss domestic spy bill.
It is for the FBI to simultaneously monitor HUGE amounts of our phone calls.

And when the judiciary found out about NSA monitoring U.S. citizens'
overseas telephone calls without a warrant: they approved the loss
of our Fourth Amendment rights.

Giving Presidential Directives the same force of law as the Constitution.

Congress has lost it too.

* The vote was 303 to 121.

* The Democrats were trying to portray the Republicans as wanting to

* Indeed, they cornered the Republicans into saying that the measure

Just what is it going to take to restore the U.S. Constitution?

Unlimited unregulated cryptography legislation is a beginning baby-step.

Otherwise it might take another civil war. The NSA wil

Yes, mighty tasty, indeed. We used to have a couple of Black Walnut
trees in our back lot. Had to have them removed in recent years,
unfortunately. Early on, shortly after we moved to our current
location, I used to invest quite a lot of time digging the flavorful
meat out of those nuts: great memories, indeed. Once you've had fresh
black walnuts--as you note so aptly at your web page, those ubiquitous
English Walnuts taste bland.

of the classic composition by John Denver (from his third LP, "Take Me
To Tomorrow," 1970, an album that also contains "Aspenglow," of
course)

Nice...when i was going to college in Va. I noticed black walnuts on
the ground near my apartment. I brought them home to NJ but they
never grew...Im positive they'll grow up here but I need to find a few
more...

You are so right Jack! Nothing can beat black walnuts in fudge, ice cream,
and anything else.

If you ever decide to plant a black walnut, there
is said to be a thin shelled variety.
When cracking walnuts (english) I like
a 10R visegrip. A visegrip lasts forever
doing this job, mine is 20 plus years old
and still effectively new. And is vastly
superior to nut crackers available for
home use.
