The EU food supplement directive will outlaw numerous
forms of vitamin, mineral, and nutrients and all higher dosages.
A few higher doseages maybe available with
a prescription but don't bet on it.
The prices charged as already seen in German are increased
by ten fold. Only small or even tiny dose of vitamin and mineral will be
permitted if permitted at all. Things like carnitine, CoQ-10, lipoic acid,
gamma tocopherol, boron, pantetheine, tocotrienol, inositol, arginine,
selenium yeast, and betaine will be prohibited or maybe available
with a prescription if you are lucky.

Dosages of those things still permitted will be quite low.
B-12 will be limited to a 9 mcg maximum
which is not even enough to compensate for
gastric atropy a common condition in the elderly. B-12 is
a vitamin for which there is no UL. Numerous supplement
takers have taken 1000 mcg (and higher) for
decades without ill effect.
B-6 will be limited to 5.4 milligrams maximum.
Vitamin D is limited to ~318 IU maximum even though
clinical research indicates the 800 IU supplements are just
barely enough to show clinical benefit in slowing osteoporosis
or keeping PTH at an appropriate level.
And the sale of bulk vitamins will be restricted to pharmaceutical
manufacturers and some food manufacturers
with the threat of imprisonment and fines
for those who would sell directly to the public.
The vitamin K maximum will be 250 mcgs which is
at most a quarter of the dose needed to strengthen bones
to full effect. Still this is better than what
the Canadian bureaucratic pinheads
allow in OTC supplements which is zero. The
Codex doesn't list K2 so the supplement has to contain
vitamin K1. Evidence is that K2 should be the preferred
form.

The Codex is moving closer to Canada and the United States.
Trade agreements will draw them in.
The Codex will be big bucks for big Pharma.

Freedom? What freedom? The next thing will be
travel permits for security or perhaps a state religion
or a menu of state approved religions for state
stability and security. Some day soon the citizens of the western
nations may wake up to a world in which the Chinese
are freer and richer. Even that is too hopeful a vision
in my opinion.
