I think you are missing the point. Yes, there is a placebo effect but the
bigger question is why does it exist?
It is a human quality that is frowned on by modern medicine.
Medicine is at it's best when it conforms to the persons belief.
It is at it's worse when mind and body are separated into treating disease
when one should treat a person. People simply don't understand all the high
tech and therefore much is lost in credibility as the person becomes a
bystander to his own treatment. He is left out of all decisions. That makes
modern medicine less effective.
