Hi Melissa-

I am a Special Ed teacher in Chicago, and think I might know why you
were told Sp. Ed. makes less- many resource positions (where you see
students based on the minutes in their IEP's) are only half-time
positions. I work as a full-time resource teacher, and adore my job.
There are many options to choose from- last year I taught in a
self-contained classroom (my kids were with me for all subjects)which
was not my ideal situation. There is still quite a demand for us,
especially in the cities. I think it is a great career... you won't get
rich, but I live comfortably enough and enjoy going to work (nearly)
all the time. Best of luck!
