 | Hello everyone,
The Media Computing Group (i10, http://media.informatik.rwth-aachen.de) is currently looking for a diplom student to work on a project studying the relationship between the rhythm of dance movements and music.
This project involves analysing the rhythm of dance movements measured using accelerometers attached to various joints on the body. The basic project idea: * retrieve the data from the accelerometers (the hardware and technical specifications will be given) * write some tools to visualise and compare the data (frequency, phases) using Matlab or a similar tool * determine a simple mapping based on the rhythmic patterns of dance movements to control the tempo and volume of an audio recording
The longer term goal is to be able to use rhythmic characteristics of dance movements to determine music genre, and to create computer music using input from the dance movements.
Experience with Mac OS X would be a plus, but not required. English proficiency is a must.
