 | All,
Just graduating from school in April and feel a well deserved Hatteras trip coming on. No need for congrats...it took me 5 years :).
Before my job training starts in June, I was thinking about heading to the outer banks for a few days of sailing as it's kind of on the way to my training. I, however, know very little other than what I've read or heard.
How are the conditions in June? I've been looking for some statistics online, but I'm missing all the good sites as all I've found is realty advertisements.
How dumb is it to go by yourself? Can you find a place to stay by yourself?
Any info would help me out. As you can see I know very little...

I'll add some more information. I am an intermediate sailor (make about 50-60% of my jibes in rough water), love to freestyle. I definantly want to sail in the sound, and crowds don't bother me a bit. Other sailors make me feel safer, especially if I'm thinking about doing this alone. Anybody need an extra for a house in June :)?
Cheers again, Lucky

 | Hard to find an individual place unless you rent a room at one of the motels. See if you can shack up with someone from rec.windsurfing. You can also camp out pretty easily as the weather there is nice in June.
The SWw trhermals start to kick that time of year so you can expect to be rigging some small sails in the afternoon. Winds are stronger in the Rodanthe/Waves area than in Avon but there are more shops and people in Avon. It's only 20 minutes away so it's no big deal anyway.
Check out http://www.windvisions.com/Hatteras/hatteras_launches.html for some site information. I'll probably be down there quite a bit, making day trips on the weekends.

 | Lucky, I sort of did the same thing last year in cape cod... your best bet might just be to head over there, and chum it up with the local sailors. - that's what i did, and ended up finding a job, a room to rent, and stayed all summer. Windsurfing is a small community, and rec.windsurfing is (atleast slightly ) smaller. and i'm sure there's tons of hatteras sailors who are neither posters nor lurkers, but can give you some more information. anyways, depending on what kinda vehicle you drive, just camp out. i lived in my truck for a month quite comfortably ... just gotta know where to park at night :) J
