Can anyone recommend a motel in Corpus Christi that has good parking and
access to the vehicle from the room? The closer to Bird Island the better?

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,
You might try Pioneer RV Resort near Port Aransas. They have several
cabins. It's about 30 minutes from Bird Island but a very easy drive
with few lights and little traffic. Just Google their web site. Good
luck.

Jim you are better off rent a condo from Don at worldwinds.net
If you going to sail Bird Island it is only 10 to 15 mins away. You can
not get much closer.

The prices are better that any hotel also.

Hi Jim,
On the Island, Don (Worldwinds) is probably your best bet but you did say
motel. There are a few well overpriced motels on the Island some nice and
some not so good. Best quality is the Best Western just past the bridge
onto the island. Closer to Bird (by a mile or so) is the Passport Motel and
the Monterey. Both of these are not the best but they high prices for what
they do offer. Anchor Resorts is a condo that will rent for a few days-
older place but good and they are windsurfer friendly. The parking might be
a bit of a hassle if you are driving a bus. For half the price, there is a
motel 6 on the mainland (another 5-7 miles) that charges $39.00 a night for
a single. Now for those who just want a roof, bed and toilet, take the
Waldron Rd exit just before going on to the Causeway; there are two old
motels there that cater to the fishing addicts. They look shabby but are
price point lodging considering the location.

Thanks Roy. As I have said to another answer I got, Worldwinds are all
booked up. I will probably use one of the two (Best Western or
Passport) you suggested..

Hi Jim,
Sounds like you are running in to the "Spring Breakers" syndrome.
Hate to tell you this but during "Spring Break" Feb.-May everything on the
So. Coast of Texas (SPI/Corpus/probably even over to Galveston) gets booked
and costs about 4 prices.
I was down there about 8 years ago, and we ended up staying well away from
the
sailing sites (dwontown Brownsville and a last minute deal at the Comfort Inn
in Corpus) to avoid the Spring Break overcharges.
Ever considered renting a motor home, and simply staying at Bird Island, or
somewhere around Flour Bluff Rd. Might be both cheaper and easier.
Hope this helps,
Roger

Thanks for the reply Roger. You are right about the lack of on-island
accomodations. We have booked a Best Western for this trip. I'll report
on it when back.

Try Leeward Isle Condo 361-949-6858 or Passport Inn 361-949-8111.

Igor.
