 | Wardog,
Wondering if you have had a chance to test drive the Exocet Cross 117? Does it fill some of the bill as a bigger wave board? How does it compare to something like the *board S-type or Kombat (well, I don't think they have a Kombat that size).
I saw the vid of KP on the *board S-type riding the waves at Lanes, but then again, he makes everything look easy no matter which board he is riding.

Hi Bri, I've have gotten a couple of sessions now on the Cross 117... Haven't had it in full-on down the line waves yet...but, sizable onshore stuff...planes up quick with that nose concave...ultra-smooth ride with the shock absorbers...very nice jiber...really comes around... Way more manageable jumping/landing than the Carve 121...short board feel...in that I mean, not a barge...centered rear footstrap...fast... Not as fast as the S-Type 115, but pretty respectable...and I haven't used it with outboard straps and provided fin...which would make it faster...super fun board...definitely a notch up in volume from the Exocet O-Wave 105, which also feels like a "normal" wave board...
I've been getting heaps of calls/emails on the Cross... Exocet nailed it on this model...listened to what real world riders wanted and produced it...and also it's interesting that Starboard fired back with an identical board...the Aero...hmmmmm...wonder if they got wind of my new company Aerokor?...gonna have to plug some leaks...;-) http://surfingsports.com/aerokor.asp
Maybe these pics will help out... Comparison to other boards in my quiver... Haven't gotten the 85/95/105 Kombats , yet...or the Acid 94 KP model... and I didn't unwrap the new '05 Evo 70/74 for the group shot...

That's for sure...from what I hear, KP is fond of this board...I like it...definitely fun...

I have no idea what you are talking about! ;-)
Those are some awesome quivers! I LOVE my Evo92! The Exocet Cross 117 caught my eye as a super light wind board. Not sure how much more it will buy me if I decided to pair an Aerotech 6.8 Phantom to my Evo 92. But then a Cross 117 with the 6.8 may be an excellent ticket as well.
Read wind rags piece on ultra short boards in the latest issue. Good little write up. After speding lots of time on the Evo 92, it does feel weird going back to a conventional wave board such as my A77. Was thinking about replacing that with and Evo 74, but think the 80 would be all I need, especially if the 92 hangs on with a 5.0! The 80 must have great range as well (6.0 - 4.0 suggested on the *board site).
Wonder if the Aero will offer a center strap position? No vee seems like it would beat you to death in the chop! They do say it is made for b&j!

Haven't gotten the 85/95/105 Kombats , yet...or the Acid 94 KP model...and I didn't unwrap the new '05 Evo 70/74 for the quiver shot...won't have the new Starboard Aero 117/127 until April... Also, didn't include the 4 custom Bassetts or the custom Rutger...but, still a decent quiver, huh?...;-)

It definitely would be...that's why I included all of those comparison shots to other boards...you would definitely fell the love of the added 25 liters of the Cross 117 in light air...
Mike C and Will V and myself all have used Evo 92's and Aerotech Phantom 6.8m2 sails...definitely works...but, volume is your friend... http://www.surfingsports.com/baja_images/mike_colee_phantom_evo.jpg

This pic shows centered rear strap option... (only a few coming in...scheduled for April...if you want one lemme know ASAP)...
The Cross 117 (and it's smaller siblings) are now a known quantity in the chop...very smooth and comfy...

The Evo 80 does have great range...4.0m2 - 6.0m2...especially for wavesailing where it's light right in the surf zone... I rode mine last year in totally psycho conditions...liquid smoke... Hell, bigger guys rode their Evo 92 in the same conditions...
Here's 235 lb Kevin on the 92 and a 3.7m2...he also uses a 6.9m2 Ezzy... http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy1.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy2.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy3.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy4.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy_kev.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy_kev_evo.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/windy_kev_evo2.jpg
Big Will V rides his in high wind, also...
Here's Treve that same day on his Evo 74...he's ordered the new Evo 62 for this season after riding the Acid 62 last season... http://www.surfingsports.com/images/cali_nuke_treve1.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/cali_nuke_treve2.jpg
I like this shot of big Tim that day...he's about the only sailor at this spot that's not on an Evo...and he would if he could... http://www.surfingsports.com/images/cali_nuke_tim5.jpg
Just got a couple of the new '05 Exocet Universal Wave II's to run head to head tests with the '05 EVO's...they are even a hair shorter than the EVO's...with more pulled in tails...

Decisions...decisions...decisions...;-)
Especially, with my new 7.5" and 8.5" wave fins designed for wider, shorter wave boards...

'05 Evo 80 with pulled tail or '05 UW 78...or save some money and go with last year's closeout deals on Evo and /or Exocet UW, which just got sweeter...

Have you had a chance to ride the '05 Evo 80? They said it is supposed to be livelier than the '04 model, but didn't know if there was a real huge difference or if it was all talk.

Hi Jeff, It definitely looks flat looking down on it...the rocker is subtle...that's why I've tried to show various and asundry angles...
http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stype_bottom.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stype_nose.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stype_tail.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stype_rocker.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_deck.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_deck2.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_nose.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_bottom.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_bottom2.jpg http://www.surfingsports.com/images/stb_stype_115_bottom3.jpg
It is fast...flat makes fast...but, I've sailed it several times in the ocean with significant swell/chop and not buried the nose yet...recdotter Mike Colee posted his impressions on my S-Type 115...
> J. M. Colee Oct 29 2004, 10:10 pm > > My impression of the S-Type: > > > The "plug and play" attribute Wardog is using is spot on. Kevin Pritchard said this:
> The S-Type. This is my favorite board of the lineup. I would recommend it to everyone except the hardcore waverider. This board does it all. It goes really fast, it jumps, it turns, it loops, and it is really fast. I was surprised since the day I got on it and have loved it ever since. This summer it was my board of choice for going out and having a good time and that says a lot because I have the ultimate quiver of boards. I use the 115 with sails 7.4 down to 5.3 and then switch down to the 104 from 5.3 to 4.2 for optimum sailing. I think you could easily sail with a 6.5 on the 104.
http://www.star-board.com/forum/kevin_corner/
I can see that you've discovered the Ask Kev forum...seems more questions on the S-Type than KP has time to answer...
I've got the S-Type 126 on the way...and with the Aero 127 on the way, it seems that I'll have to buy a Roger rig to haul my boards around...;-)

 | I guess we have to throw the *board Aero in the mix now since it seems it will compete with the Cross.

 | Yea, the no vee thing sounds scary! If they say the board can do b&j, wonder how they figure it will handle the chop? I would guess they had to test in some type of chop.
