 | Some time ago I bought a JVC GR-DVL367ex. I now want to transfer some video onto a PC which has an IEEE 1394 firewire port. I've had a look at the JVC website and it seems that DV Cable part VC-VDV204U is the correct part to connect my GR-DVL367ex to my PC.
I've emailed JVC sales for confirmation of this, but have received no reply. Can anyone advise what cable I need?

I looked at JVC's US site. That is just an ordinary 4-pin to 4-pin IEEE-1394 (same as FireWire) cable. At $30 US, it's pretty expensive. Your local video shop should have such a cable for the equivalent of US $10, I should think.
Your camera probably has a 4-pin FireWire port. However, you should make sure your computer has a 4-pin FireWire port as well. If it instead has a 6-pin FireWire port, you will need a 4-pin to 6-pin cable instead (same price range).
Look at a 4- to 6-pin cable (such as VC-VDV206U on the JVC site) to see what the 6-pin plug looks like, and it will help you identify what is or isn't on your computer.
Laptops often have 4-pin FireWire sockets and desktops often have 6-pin FireWire sockets (some desktops might have both).

I looked at the UK site, and it was expensive there too. And it's not as if they offer any support to justify their high price - if they had answered my email I would probably have bought the part from them.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond in such detail. This should be enough to get me started!
