 | I'm a heavy runner,200+lb and I had surgery on my knee a year ago. I have been riding my bike and walking since the surgery with no pain at all and now I want to start easing back into running. I had a torn miniscus and most of my cartlidge is gone. The doctor recommended I give up running and find some other means of getting a cardiovascular workout. I'm not a fast runner, more of a very slow jogger or shuffler but I still enjoy it more than walking or biking. I would like to get something that takes the pressure off the knee so as to not reinjure the knee. I've seen the ads for Cho Pat knee braces. Has anyone here used them and what kind of results did you have? Any other recommendations? Thanks, Clyde

I'd wait for them to come up with a clinical trial that shows it's effective. These companies make millions from people thinking, "Well, what's the harm in trying it?" The answer is that you're most likely flushing money down the toilet in exchange for a placebo.

 | At the risk of being cruel, heartless, etc, I think the single best thing you could do for your knee is lose some of those lbs before going back to running.
And even then, my advice is to jog on soft surfaces (tartan track, indoor wood track, dirt, etc). But if the knee still hurts, I'd move over to biking. I have a couple of friends who had to give up running, and who have a lot of fun in the biking world.
