 | I am learning to juggle 5 and am currently using some crappy 80g beanbags I made. I want to get some nice looking balls that are not too heavy and not too big but look good. I've been looking at renegade filled stage and Beard DX balls. What would be the best choice for me? I've been juggling for almost a year now and can do four balls for 114 catches and five for about 12 catches. Any suggestions about ball sizes, weight or type?

 | Hey,
If money isn't a factor, by all means choose Fergies ( www.fergieprops.com ), as they are the supreme ruler of all juggling balls.
I've never used DX Balls, but I think filled stage wouldn't be good because one tiny collision could ruin your whole pattern, whereas Fergies (well, any beanbag really) can easily fix a pattern if they collide.
Also, beanbags don't roll all around when you drop them.
Hope I helped,
Static

Well, money is always a factur, but how much would a set of 5 Fergies cost me? > > I've never used DX Balls, but I think filled stage wouldn't be good > because one tiny > collision could ruin your whole pattern > Wouldn't that just help improve my pattern in a way? | If ye are using some 80gram bean bags, even though i'm not that good I would suggest using Todd Smith small sized bean bags. They're i think 2" but i'll have to double check. www.toddsmith.com They're available in lots of color combos and stuff so they'll definetly look cool. Mine are all silver and can give me long happy 4 ball runs and are serving me well on learning 5, although i don't always use them for 5, and work with ones that are harder to do, so when I pick them up I can juggle them for a long time =-D Well anyways that's for bean bags. For Balls, dube stage balls are pretty cool, but all the advanced people mimght throw things at me and call me a n00b. Good luck...

 | I wouldn't rush out to buy juggling balls, I would go to the birdseed store and get a bag of millet to fill up some tennis balls. Do it, you will be very happy with them. A small razor slice in the balls is self sealing. Use a little glue anyway. I learned to juggle five balls with lacrosse balls, not a good idea. I spent more time chasing the slippery things down the hill than I care to admit. DX balls, beanbags, and the homemade balls I just recommended do not bounce down hills or off of each other. You will waste less wonderful juggling time if you get some good equipment. If you must spend some money, I think that Dube makes a nice beanbag. I like the 2+5/8 inch size. I have never owned a set of DX balls, but I want to make some from some rubber street hockey balls and plastic beads. carjug

 | Hey,
It depends on the size. The bigger they are, the more they cost. I bought 7 fergies once, 2.5", and they were $10 each. Email Fergie and he will automatically send you an email with pricing details and information.

 | DX balls aren't quite filled stage balls, they are more of a solid bean bag. They are absolutely wonderful for juggling. They do not ruin the pattern if they collide any more than beanbags do, and they look much more proffessional. I have tried just about every type of ball, and DXs are by far my favorite. I aquired mine from Passe Passe at the WJF, and they can take a serious beating; as durable as lacrosse balls. I would highly suggest these to anyone even remotely interested in getting a great set of long-term juggling balls. They don't balance(stall) as well as beanbags, but are still very gentle on the hands. The solidity of the balls gives a much more consistent throw, and they are easy to catch. DXs are the best. staticjuggler wrote: > Hey, > > If money isn't a factor, by all means choose Fergies ( www.fergieprops.com > ), as they > are the supreme ruler of all juggling balls. > > I've never used DX Balls, but I think filled stage wouldn't be good > because one tiny > collision could ruin your whole pattern, whereas Fergies (well, any > beanbag really) can > easily fix a pattern if they collide. > > Also, beanbags don't roll all around when you drop them. > > Hope I helped, > > Static > > leostef wrote: > > I am learning to juggle 5 and am currently using some crappy 80g beanbags > > I made. I have to agree for the most part - I just got my DX balls and I love them. They are excellent juggling props. However, I have to disagree about them being collision free like beanbags. When they hit eachother they bounce and go flying. Maybe mine aren't totally broken in yet and that problem will go away, I'm not sure.
Since you are only at 12 or so catches with five, I'd say learning would be best with some nice beanbags. I like Todd Smith's. You can get their beanbag 2nds that have some random corporate logo on them for only $5.00 a piece. I've heard Fergies are great but I've never used them personally, plus you pay a premium for the quality.

according to www.beard.co.uk...
"Dx Chroma Dream ... Suede effect finish, like peach skin" ie, they have a marginally softer, more matt finish than the otherwise smooth and slippery DX
For more info on the whole range of DX balls, have a look at http://www.beard.co.uk/cgi-bin/catalogue.cgi?choice=browse;cat=Balls;sub_cat=DX

 | I am also thinking of getting a set of four clubs to learn four club juggling. What clubs would be best for that? I have a set of three mr. babache and am fairly good with three. I can to continous doubles and three up pirouettes. I was thinking about Todd Smith Europeans, but I really haven't tried any other clubs so I don't know what clubs would be best for me. There is no juggling club near me so I can't go to a club and try out other peoples equipment.

 | A filled stage ball is a DX ball. Medium DX balls from seriousjuggling.com would be my choice if I was learning 5 again. You can't go wrong with a regular sized beanbag, either. Whatever you get, get either white or a very bright color so you and others can see them well.
Dube stage balls would be horrible for learning 5.

That depends on what you mean by 'horrible'. It would by no doubt be horribly frustrating to learn five with stage balls, but once you mastered it, your pattern will be much cleaner than if you used bean bags. The error margin is that much smaller with stage balls (you can't be that sloppy with your technique).
The same should be applicable for one piece Americans compared to smaller composite clubs.
Anyway, the OP is probably much better off with a bean bag or DX ball.

 | Beard DX balls and Renegade filled stage balls are exactly the same thing. Buy them from Renegade though. They're a good company in my experience. I recently had a very bad experience with another large internet juggling vender that claims to carry DX balls, but in reality doesn't have any.
I have both DX balls and Fergie bags. I like both, although I juggle only the Fergies inside my house because they're easier on the furniture. I think Fergie bags are probably cheaper than DX balls, but you'd have to email Mike to find out his current prices. Here's his web site: http:// www.fergieprops.com/ . Now that I'm thinking about it, I like my Fergies the best. I do not like Dube stage balls. I have 9 of them, and they're ok, but really hard. Dube silicones are great, but not for learning five.

 | I'm using Beard DX Dream 68mm (in red) for learning 5, at least when I practice indoors (outside I prefer lacrosse balls). I'm quite happy with them. They look good, they feel good and collisions are not disastrous either, because they don't bounce. I personally prefer balls to beanbags, and the DX come closest to a real ball, without breaking everything in my living room. I've also tried DX 62mm, but for my taste they are a little to light and the 68mm are fine for releasing and catching 3 in one hand anyway. For four in one hand they would be borderline (depending on the size of your hands of course).
