John Pierce, VCDL webmaster, has been investigating several
complaints that the system for sending emails to legislators wasn't
working for some people. He found that most of the errors were
caused by people misusing the "CC" field. He has now created more
detailed error messages to help people figure out easily what they
have done wrong.
As far as the CC field, generally just leave it blank. The CC field
is there if you want to send a copy of the email to a friend or
family member. To use it you must put a full email address in the cc
field - like:
president@vcdl.org
Do not just put a name, like "John Doe" and DON'T put the name of the
legislator in the CC field (like "Senator Smith"). It is best to
type the CC email address and don't copy/paste it. Again if you
don't have a special need to use the CC field, just leave it blank.
Bottom line - if you were getting errors and are not using this
powerful system, PLEASE try using it again and let us know of any
problems. We NEED you to send those emails and DON'T want anyone
getting discouraged or frustrated. It is a new system and we
appreciate the patience of those of you who have had problems with it.
