 | A young Columbus, Ohio based reporter for the Associated Press named Anita Chang, who has written numerous news articles about criminal use of guns in the past couple of years, has written a full page article (published in the January 23 issue of the Bremerton SUN in the Puget Sound area) about her own experiences as a firearms novice with firearms training and getting a concealed carry license.
She started because of a series of incidents that made her afraid for her own safety, as her father's encouragement. But it went beyond that.
The article is remarkably positive, written from the point of view of a young woman venturing into unfamiliar territory and not as a stereotypical "gun nut" that the antis can disregard. In fact, although she now has her Ohio carry license ("why not, it's my right"), she decided that (at least for now) she wasn't ready yet for the responsibility of owning a gun.
I am particularly impressed that she understands that it's about *rights*, not about duck hunting, or "sporting purposes", or even self-defense.
My conclusion upon reading the article is that we have a new sister. What's more, this sister is in the news media.
I hope that this is the start of a trend. I can't find any web links to her article yet, but I'm sure it'll appear online eventually.
