VCDL's push to allow gun owners to be able to carry in National Parks
continues to gain momentum! Organizations are continuing to come on
board and the combined memberships of those organizations now exceeds
1,000,000 members!

On top of that members of Congress are now getting active in the
cause, including Representatives from Colorado and Pennsylvania. In
Virginia, Representative Virgil Goode, a strong believer in our right
to keep and bear arms, wrote me a letter indicating that he is
planning to actively work this issue with the Department of the
Interior!

It is thanks to Virgil Goode that we have shall-issue concealed carry
in Virginia. It was HIS bill back in 1995, when he was still a
member of the Democrat party in the Virginia General Assembly, that
was signed into law. He is tenacious and fights hard for what he
believes in. That is exactly what is needed for this kind of effort
and why I am glad, and proud, we have him in the fight with us.

VCDL has a new version of the Petition for Rule Making, which will be
posted on the VCDL site by the time you read this. Leadership and
some of our Executive members have been working on improving the
wording over the last few weeks. I really like the end product.
Special thanks to EMs Dave Yates, Mike Stollenwerk and Board member
George Pettit for their work on this.

I hope to have the Petition for Rule Making on its way to the
Department of the Interior in early February!

Here are the groups that are signed on so far, with more expected:

Virginia Citizens Defense League, Virginia
Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, National
Gun Owners of America, National
Johnstown Rifle and Pistol Club, Pennsylvania
Menoher Sportsmen's Club, Pennsylvania
Grassroots South Carolina, South Carolina
Maryland Shall Issue, Maryland
Washington Arms Collectors, Washington state
New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, New York
New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense, New Jersey
Gun Owners of Utah, Utah
Hollow-Point Defense, Arizona
Alaska Machine Gun Association, Alaska
Community Association of Firearms Educators, Maryland
Virginia Gun Owners Coalition, Virginia
Genesee Conservation League, New York
Pink Pistols, National
NCGUN, North Carolina
Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, Colorado
Georgia Firearm Owners Defense League, Georgia
Western Missouri Shooters Alliance, Missouri
Virginia Chapter Second Amendment Sisters, Virginia
Shooters' Alliance for Firearms Rights, Michigan
Cambria County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, Pennsylvania
Montgomery Citizens for a Safer Maryland, Maryland
Grassroots North Carolina, North Carolina

These are exciting times and I am feeling very optimistic about our
chances to make America's National Parks a safer place for all of us!
From what I am seeing, we will be reaching a critical mass soon as
more and more organizations and more and more members of Congress
join the cause! We have a pro-gun Administration and a U.S. Attorney
General's office that just put out a 97 page study of the Second
Amendment and concluded it is an individual right. The 'shall-issue'
movement and reciprocity are accelerating across the country. All
but 4 states have some form of concealed carry laws. Everything is
coming together at once, so cross your fingers and hold on to your
hats!
