I recently bought a stainless Ruger Vaquero through auction and was
disapointed to find the finish very dull looking.I always thought stainless
shined almost like nickle. That's the way it looks in the pics on the Ruger
website anyhow. What's the best way to get maximum shine out of the
stainless? Thanks.

You want the "Bright Stainless Steel" or "Glossy Stainless" finish. You
can ship the gun back to Ruger and they can refinish it for a nominal
charge. The address and phone number are in your owner's manual.

I use a polish called "Flitz". It's a German-made polish that works
like a charm on any stainless gun I've got. It will even take out
small scratches if you work with it long enough. And, as an added
bonus, it makes clean-up easier after you've been shooting. It's make
that Ruger shine like a diamond in a goat's butt...

You can find it at hardware stores (sometimes), gun shops, and online.
I always get mine at the gun shows.

If your handgun has a dull finish, it started life like that...or it was
bead blasted to make it into one. Don't try to polish it, accept it as
is or trade it off.

Many stainless revolvers are buff for less reflection while hunting or
serious taget shooting. I bought a Taurus and have the reverse problem -
too shiney for hunting.

My bisley-vaquero shines mirror bright. Not sure if you were expecting more
or if Ruger has changed its finish. It seems unlikely its a defect, way too
obvious. - CW
