 | I NEED I'd like to get MP3 copies of Le Bal De Jugon (French, Brittany) and Jocul De A Longul (Romainian). I could use the dance description for the Romanian one. I've been doing International Folk Dance for almost 40 years, and do weekly Irish Set to build stamina and help resist congnitive degeneration!
JUKEBOX SOFTWARE We are trying out a laptop to take over all our 2000 dances from 50 plus countries. So far the iTunes software seems the best, though MusicMatch has some nice features. NEITHER is perfect. I have heard that Neil Rosen of MIT has written a good program for this. Does anyone know details?

 | Hi Reggie,
I've been using MusicMatch together with a Creative Nomad 3 Jukebox for several years now with no complaints. I have just over 1000 IFD MP3s in the JB3 (i.e. 3 GBytes used out of 20 GB available). I think you can get a 5 GB player these days for about $100. I like to use MusicMatch to prepare a dancelist in advance; the list is then downloaded to the JB3; I turn it on and let it play for the whole session. For the occasional request, a printed list of the full directory is adequate.
I also make complete CDs of all the dances to give out to all attendees - they are SO cheap now - I buy in bulk for <9 cents a disk.
What's best for you depends on your leadership style. Some local leaders use a laptop at their sessions but I don't see the advantage for such a large expense. If you do mostly requests you need a laptop to easily find the next one, but some leaders IMHO waste excessive dance time nursing the technology.
Good luck, Bob Radcliffe
