 | The Bay Area English Regency Society (BAERS) < http://www.baers.org > is pleased to present a Regency dance party on FRIDAY January 14 in Palo Alto.
The Bay Area English Regency Society sponsors informal (casual dress) dance parties at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (600 Colorado Avenue, a block and a half West of Middlefield, in Palo Alto) on the second Friday of each month (except January, August, and December).
These dance parties are an opportunity to learn and dance the flirtatious waltzes, spirited country dances, and vigorous cotillions of Jane Austen's day (the late 1700s and early 1800s), in the graceful spirit of the English Regency. Some provide previews of the programs for each of our several annual Balls; all are fun events in themselves.
Admission $5. All dances taught or prompted, usually by Alan Winston. Newcomers welcome, no partners required - the custom in Jane Austen's era was to change partners frequently - live music. Casual dress. Doors open at 7:45; dancing begins at 8:00 and continues (with a mid-evening break) until 10:30. Some light refreshments are provided; contributed refreshments are welcome.
