 | One of my students got me a wireless security camera setup for Christmas with three cameras. (An aside: I can't believe this guy spent this much money on me! I'm very flattered and honored.) Anyway, I've had a heck of a time with it as it doesn't like to send the signal thru barn type materials or thru glass windows. It works just fine in the house, even thru walls. But my barn has metal grills on the fronts of the stalls and I think the metal just messes it up too much.
So, Gussie is due to foal any day, and my parents are away for a funeral, so I'm doing everything here and dragging my 3 year old around with me for it all and I'm WAY pooped. It became pretty important for me to get this camera working. So I decided to mount both the camera and the receiver together in the stall and then run 100' of coaxial cable from the receiver, thru my window (the opening sealed up with duct tape because brrrr it's cold here!) and see if that works.
Hours later...
After monkeying incessantly with mounting issues (the wires pull the camera into a different angle and need to be anchored, the extension cord isn't long enough, I suck with hammers and screw drivers and have to basically bend nails around thru the holes and mash them down, etc etc etc) and then working on camera angle and figuring out what channel works on the TV and trying two cameras but getting sea-sick watching the TV as the receiver cycles thru them both, I finally have it working relatively well. And I only fell off the ladder twice. I didn't drop the hammer off the ladder onto my head this time, but I did last time when my dad was helping me try to set it up in its wireless configuration.
Now, too bad I can't just hook it up to the 'puter and you all could watch. But if this minor installation was too much for me, I think I'll skip the more complex stuff.
In related news, Gussie is now fully sacked out to ladders entering and exiting her stall.
Foal report soon, I hope! take care all, cindi
