Looking for advice on routes for a backpacking trip. I intend to go in
late May, early June for seven to ten days. I hope to see the coastline
and the rainforests, as well as some of the elevate terrain. I was
wondering if anyone could recommend a good route, preferably a rigorous
one - ten, twelve miles a day. Thanks in advance!

We had a really nice trip in the summer of 2002. We spent the first
four days hiking north from Rialto Beach in an in-out trip. Fascinating
for us non-coastal hikers. Be sure to pay attention to the tide tables.

Then we went inland starting at the somewhat obscure Bogachiel River
trailhead to the Divide trail, hiked along the divide, and then dropped
down to the quite populous Hoh River trail. We hiked in-out to Glacier
Meadows, then left via the Hoh Ranger Station. This is not a loop, but
the ranger station gave us the name of a person who would shuttle us
back to our car for a very modest donation.
This gives you sea and mountains, solitude and, well, crowds.

The hike from Third Beach to Oil City and the mouth of the Hoh is about as
good as it gets. It runs along the coast line and is spectacular.

I did the first 3/4 of the Hoh Rain Forest trail and have photo and trail info
on it on my website listed below.
Happy trails!
