Is there a good reason for M2 not showing the newsgroup name in the To field in the Sent mail forlder? News group postings currently have a blank To field.

Because it shows the content of the 'To' header of sent messages. This usually stays blank when posting to newsgroups, but you can use it. Use the 'Reply to all' button to see what I mean.
Of course it would often be useful if the content of the 'newsgroups' header where shown in the 'Sent' view.
