Others may like it, but I'd rather not use the Start Bar
feature that appears in the Address Bar. Every time I
start Opera, I have to go to View / Toolbars / Customize
/ Toolbars and unselect the Start Bar. How can I make it
so that the Start Bar goes away forever -- or until I
change my mind, anyway?

I'm using Opera for Linux v. 8 beta 1.

This version of Opera is great, by the way.

Thanks.

Select View - Toolbars - Customize - Toolbars, select the start bar and
set placement to "None". That will get rid of it.

I did this, but the infernal thing keeps coming back. Does it work on your
installation? I'm stymied.

Thanks for any suggestions. I'm really wondering if it's an bug.

We have a user on the forums with the same problem... though it works fine
on my system.

The first question is whether you are having Opera start with a saved
session. Session files include the complete UI state, which toolbars are
visible and what buttons are on them. If you are using a saved session,
then you need to re-save the session after making your change.

If that's not it, then next would be if you are logging out of X without
closing Opera (or some similar situation). Opera may not save changes
until you exit Opera normally, if Opera is not exiting normally then your
settings may not have been changed.

Beyond that, you can always find your toolbar setup file and change it
manually ...

Thanks. I changed my toolbar setup file according to the instructions on
the opera website forum. That seems to have worked, at least so far.

Oh, that'll work. It doesn't answer the underlying question though.

You'll note the other poster thinks his problem was due to not properly
uninstalling an old version. If that is true for you as well, then you'll
have other problems too until you fix it.
