Hi,

I wonder if there is a solution to this. Basically, whenever I go to a
site that requires authentication through a popup message box, Opera
will not save the username and password, even if you tick the save
password option. Wand is obviously of no use here since the focus is on
the authentication box.

I suspect the reson it's not able to save the password is that the urls
that trigger the authentication may vary. However, since the domain is
constant, this shouldn't be a problem. Internet Explorer for instance is
able to do cope with that.

Is there anything obvious that I'm missing?

Can you give an example URL? And note that you can use the wand even in a
popup without toolbar, using the Ctrl+Enter shortcut.

Unfortunately, this only happens on sites that use this authentication
method, so you won't be able to test much, but here is a few examples:

http://stockcharts.com/members/analysis/20050104-1.html
http://stockcharts.com/members/analysis/20050104-2.html
http://stockcharts.com/members/analysis/20050104-3.html

As you can see, the page bit differs slighty each time. It seeems that
you're only able to use the save function when the url stays static. If
I acces the site through its frontpage at:

http://stockcharts.com/members

this would actually save the username and password correctly because the
url is constant. I would then have to navigate through the site to the
news item I'm interesting in.

If you access the news item directly or via an external program like an
RSS aggregator for instance, Opera doesn't seem to be able to tell that
it is within the same site, therefore it should use the same
authentication details.

When the site uses http-authentication, Opera doesn't offer an option to
save the user/password combination for the server, only for the URL. Only
with user/password entries in forms on webpages does Opera offer to save
the password for the entire site.

http-authentication, that was the name that kept escaping me!

Anyway, although I gathered that it was a limitation in Opera, it still
offers you to save your username and password. Any normal user would
assume that it works just like IE. I do see it as more of a bug than a
limitation to be honest.
