 | I am again writing about the inability of users to nominate where the Opera files are stored. Beta 8 puts data files where it wants them and not where I want them. I know there are ways around it but Opera is the only browser I know where you can't nominate where to put data files files. When can we look forward to some freedom to store data files like address books and bookmarks where we want them .

Hmm.., didn't know you could change such things in Mozilla or MSIE at all (except by editing the Registry).

You can do this already. I've written a step-by-step explanation here:

In the two named cases (bookmarks and contacts), right-click on the appropriate panel, and in the popup menu choose File, Save as ...
However, no corresponding option on Notes.

Indeed, it would be very welcome here...

IMHO the biggest deficiency in notes. No save, export, import, sharing note templates. Should be trivial to implement saving a range of notes, since AFAIK the pieces are all there -- Save-as, send by mail (must have clip out a note from the database). Just add an action to All-Actions, to copy a range of data from the note file to the Save-as file.
----------------------------------------- Choose the Opera browser (http://www.opera.com/). Tabs, sessions, notes, Email, newsfeeds, RSS, chat, all instantly available at a click, keypress, or mouse gesture.

OK...Here's a neat option for you! I just tried the following:
1) Made a new folder in the bookmarks and named it "Notes" 2) Imported the Notes.adr file into that folder 3) Viewed the properties just as you would for any bookmark.
The only real problem with doing it that way is that it isn't dynamic...that is, it doesn't update the bookmarks file if you change the notes file.

Wouldn't be hard, they already have Save selected bookmarks/contacts as. All of those are in Opera's generic *.adr format, the exact same code would work. Just have to apply it to notes.adr is all.

As long as we are wishing...
Notes also keeps the URL from where it was saved (if there was one). It would be nice to get this info via Properties, another column, or... As it is now I have to load the Notes file in a word processor to find what the URL was.
I think one of the early releases used to show the "saved from" URL.
It would also be nice if the notes panel remembered how it was sorted, like the Bookmarks panel does...

Looks like the wrong newsgroup in that case :)

Or hover over it, and see the URL in the tooltip. Or double-click the note, and see the URL in the address field, loading the page.

It doesn't?

Would be nice if Manage accounts remembered how it was sorted, it always comes up sorted by account type.
From my testing, Manage notes always comes up "unsorted". Which is fine with me, I'll sort it myself. But if you tap the column heading to sort by name (the only column there is), it doesn't remember that.
