When's the last time you read anything new in opera.beta? Not even Opera posts new beta release announcements there anymore.

For some unknown reason, my newsreader, XanaNews, had been ignoring opera.beta for weeks, but not opera.general or the other opera-related newsgroups, thus leading me to wrongly believe opera.beta was essentially dormant. My apologies for the above rather snotty comment.

I don't know if quirks mode is involved here, but this perfectly valid, although deprecated, contraption causes some amount of text following it to disappear:
