 | I don't know what happened, but something just broke the Zoom feature. :(
Zooming in or out makes (almost) all images disappear. Unless the zoom is
exactly 100%, the images are hidden.

All of them have this problem.
Opening not a page, but just an image in Opera also doesn't allow zooming.
Opening local images have the same problem too. The problem happens with
JPEGs, GIFs and PNGs. No difference
I noted that on slate one image works fine, the MSN logo at
http://sc.msn.com/global/c/lg/MSFT_118x35.gif
Reloading a page doesn't help. Closing and restarting Opera doesn't help.
The MSN logo still works after reloading the image.
The layout of the page stays intact, the colours and other font formatting
work fine.
When switching to medium screen rendering, those images that are resized
are hidden. Those that aren't are visible.
All this happened some time ago (a few days ago I notice the problem on
one image in a MSRed page, but didn't pay any attention to this). No idea
what caused it.
The PC is relatively freshly booted, no viruses, spyware, memory intensive
applications, disk corruption or other crap.

If Opera 'suddenly' starts behaving radically differently, there might be
other factors in play. Unless you can find a reproduction scenario, it
doesn't help much to file a bug report. Posting here is fine, if others
also experiences this that would be useful info.

I thought about that. But after it suddenly started it does it all the
time now, so in a sense it is reproducible, just not on every Opera
installation.
One thing that I noted is that GIF logos frequently work fine.

May be all GIFs with transparency would work fine, I don't know yet.

| Here is the cause of the problem. Use this Opera6.ini file (copy to your
profile directory) and zooming will stop working. I don't remember how the
address to which send updates is formed, so, Rijk (or anyone else), if you
could send the contents of this message to a proper address for bug number
161213, that would be nice.
Copying this file to a fresh installation of Opera breaks zooming.
Restoring the default ini file fixes it.
If anyone has any ideas on what got broken in this file, I'd like to know
it too.

Doing a fresh install of Opera helps. Installed a copy into
G:\Programs\OperaTEST and it has zooming. Now what the fuck should I do to
get this working in my existing installation? Any ideas on how I should
regression test this problem?

This doesn't work, actually. I tried, but zoom is still broken. At the
same time, copying opera6.ini to a fresh installation seems to break zoom
there too. There must be something else causing the problem as well. :(

Thanks. I just found that opera6.ini was the problem, but I don't think
reconfiguring is a good idea, given that my opera6.ini is almost 30Kb as
opposed to 3Kb default file. I would have to configure actions for obscure
file types, reconfigure the interface from scratch., etc. I'd be more
interested to know, what exactly is causing the problem (my INI is
included in another post in the thread), so that I can just delete the
offending line.

Well, your Opera6.ini is quite old, because you installed over an 6.05. =
It
contains some useless entries of the old version and i wouldn't wonder i=
f
there were some incompatible entries. So beginning from zero would be th=
e
best decision. You can try to keep [Adv User Prefs], [File Types =
Extension],
and [File Types]. Maybe it's enough to delete just the [User Prefs] =
section.

| I went through it and eventually narrowed the problem down to
[Multimedia]
Interpolate Images=1
(I suspected it to be the culprit initially, tested it, but apparently
wrongly)
Setting it to 0 makes zooming work, setting back to 1 breaks things. This
is the setting for Smooth zooming of images in Preferences/Multimedia. So
the problem can be rephrased now this way: Smooth zooming of images just
stopped working without reason.
Now the question is - why isn't smooth zooming working? Installing another
copy of Opera to a new directory and then enabling Smooth zooming there
breaks it too. On the Opera first run page the icons work fine (I suspect
they are transparent GIFs), but the red image on top as well as the
background do not work.

Smooth zooming works fine for me. So maybe the problem is somehow relate=
d
to your hardware or OS.

I don't think so, as it worked before on the same OS (Win2k Pro) and
hardware (ATI Radeon 9600PRO). I agree that it is related to my "setup",
meaning the combination of OS, hardware, other applications AND Opera, but
since my computer is definitely capable of smoothly zooming something,
this is clearly a bug in Opera, because it can't do it.

I have exaktly the same config (Win2k, Radeon 9600pro and Opera 8.0b1),
so the problem must be related to something different.
