Pardon me if that has been mentioned in another thread, but I've lost
track in all the meaningless subjects.
With 8.00beta1 I miss the folder tree for the hotlist when in the
Properties view of a bookmark. Was it removed or has something gone
awry on my set-up?

It was removed. You now have a button that opens a list to select a folder
from when bookmarking, and none when looking at properties of existing
bookmarks. Dragging or Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V is the way to move bookmarks between
folders in 8.0b1
