NZ's come a long way since the 1951 lockout. Just imagine if today a government tried to make it an offence to feed locked out workers' children.

 | Members of the Employer's Union still practise blacklisting and even witness intimidation.
In my industry one or two rogue employers still take the food out of children's mouths.
Okay we no longer have the Muldoons and Masseys.
Remind me- who was the PM in 1951?

I hasten to add that when i refer to 'rogue employers' I definitely do no include my present employer.
Rogue employers in my expereince have been 'boarding school boys'.

 | To the poor lurker:
This post is directed to a small group of gentlemen who monitor my posts on the internet.
Beacuse of their modus operandi this is currrently my only form of communication to them.
This group are largely people who have dealings in the Cromwell area. The Upper Clutha.
They got fat when the Clyde dam was being built and their business practise was built up out of raking off the benefits of a fairly controversial 'think big' project.
FACTS
1. I am not a communist.
2. I took a responsible and proactive role In the Upper Clutha valley before during and after the building of the Clyde Dam.
3. In 1982 I was secretary-treasurer of the Upper Clutha Fruitgrower's Association. I noted right away that the chair was not really very hot on policy. However i worked around that and tried to involve him as far as possible.
It seemed clear that the govt. in providing 'down stream' assistance to people affected by the Clyde Dam were going to take that phrase literally. In fact they were going to provide assistance to fruitgrowers in the Earnscleugh area.
Earnscleugh has always been a cold hole. National party stronghold as well. Campbell Bros came up with this theory that late fruit would gain a premium on the market.
Fruit in the area to be flooded, Cromwell gorge and Lowburn had early maturity and has a premium on the early market
Long story cut short- provide extensive irrigation off the top of the Clyde Dam in to Earnscleugh and you have a typical Muldoon publicity coup.
Seeing this I saw our MP and had a delegation from the Upper Clutha fruitgrowers to Tony Friedlander the Minister of Works.
We got a lot of money into our neck of the woods. BNZ, Rural Bank and the famous Development Finance Corporation. As well as those banks I was told David Richwhite provided money to at least one property in Earnscleugh.
The rest is history. All the state banks went broke in 1984.
In my opinion I provided direct assitance to some senior MWD staff who took up Molyneux orchards. The MWD had a policy of not employing people in the Cromwell area (from 1975) and also not employing fruigrowers (from 1982.)
On our property at Lowburn my modest loss of production payments over land required for the dam was withheld. Compenation payment was delayed for nine years.
I do not have a paper trail for this but i believe i set up the initiative for the Burn Cottage irrigation scheme. I was secretary treasurer for the scheme for the first two years. I went to the then labour cabinet minister Hon. Trevor Young. I met him at the offices of the NZ workers union at the back of the CVD project office.
If that makes me a communist then that is too bloody bad!
The implimentation of the Burn Cottage scheme was delayed. irrigators were taking water out of the Westmoreland race informally. In my opinion that was a contributing factor to 'the big break' in the race above Baden's.
There is a lot more to this story but i won't tell it here.
Now you gutless wonders i have a bargaining chip. You have not played by the book and now you are caught out.
Now let me see if there is a man among you!!!
David Keith George.
