The 2k box is AD. --- that is not supported. it isn't supported even to an NT (non-AD) domain samba isn't presently able to exchange SAM with PDC except on a one-shot (vampire) basis (one-way).

 | Ok, what about setting up samba to backup the enviorment is the PDC goes down? What I looking for if the w2k pdc goes down I and to bring up samba to take over the network to keep everything running or even to us it to replace the w2k server with little worries.

 | one way flow is fine too as long the users can login samba box if the w2k box is down.
