 | Hi all
What is the best way to deploy the new runtime in a network environment.

Trevor,
The run time installer could be placed in a central location and each user told to run it. Or, if your network has the tools (I know Novell does and I am pretty sure MS does, too), your network admininstrator can install software on any or all client PCs automatically.

 | Thanks Geoff, is there a separate runtime installer with 2.5? I have extracted the (80Mb) download and there doesn't seem to be a dbaseruntimeengine.exe.
Thanks

Trevor,
I would guess that there will be one eventually.

 | > I would guess that there will be one eventually. > Thank's Geoff I suspect that I didn't make myself quite clear. I have a particular client who depends heavily on an application I have written. There are 15 users and the app is critical to the companies operations. I now understand that the "stand alone" runtime is not yet available so I decided to manually install it from the dBASE 2.5 SETUP.EXE to each workstation. When I ran the dBASE 2.5 Setup and clicked on "Install dBASE PLUS Runtime and BDE" I received the message
"This is not needed on machines where dQuery or dBASE PLUS is installed. It is intended for Web Servers, or any machine where you need to run a compiled dQuery Application. Continue?"
Now over the past 22 years in IT, I have learned not to assume anything when dealing with production systems, and to screw up this site would cause much wailing and gnashing of teeth!! So the moderately ambiguous nature of the above warning caused me to halt and double check with the "Gurus" ( ie: you guys :-) )
It may seem that I am splitting hairs, but the question was genuine.
My 2 points of uncertainty were:
1) The warning did not specify a version, it just said dBASE PLUS 2) The warning only spoke about compiled dQuery Applications, not compiled dBASE applications (didn't know you could compile dQuery!)
So I assume (gulp!) that it is OK to deploy the runtime manually to all users.....Yes?
Thanks again for yours and Jonny's responses.
Regards Trevor

Trevor,
I have not tried this, to be honest, as I have not needed to (at least not yet). You cannot compile dQuery itself, but it does produce programs and reports which do get compiled. I am quite certain the installer you have will install the real dB+ runtime, not the one for the dQuery standalone version. There is no reason for them to include the dQ standalone version with your dB+.

Yes, you are most likely fine. If you can, try this option on a computer that doesn't have dBASE Plus, the runtime, or the BDE ... I have never worked with it, and don't have a computer that doesn't have these on it.

 | Hi,
> So I assume (gulp!) that it is OK to deploy the runtime manually to all > users.....Yes? --- If you know that its a update of your version so you can including only the Runtime files seperatly for refresh like example at bottom or with ScriptMaker or Project Explorer "Seperatly include"...
if this not a update you can including at this moment the dbaseplusRuntimeEngine1755.... in your Setup and inside files you can including refresh of the Runtime files for overwrite the 1755 files with 1804....
Like this Inno Code lines:
[Files] Source: ???\Runtime\PlusRun.exe; DestDir:{reg:HKLM\SOFTWARE\dBASE\PLUS\series1,RuntimePath}}; Check: RuntimeFolder Source: ???\Runtime\PLUSr_XX.dll; DestDir:{reg:HKLM\SOFTWARE\dBASE\PLUS\series1,RuntimePath}; Check: RuntimeFolder
.... [Code] function RuntimeFolder() :Boolean; var cFolder: String; begin RegQueryStringValue(HKLM,'SOFTWARE\dBASE\PLUS\series1','RuntimePath',cFolder); Result:= FileExists(cFolder+'\PLUSrun.exe'); end;
So these files will only refreshed when they are found inside folder out of user registry entries....
The Resource.dll file dosnt be refreshed it is not changed.... (I think)

 | Thanks.
Another question please. I ran the 2.5 setup and when I chose to install the runtime, it told me that I only needed to install the runtime for WEB server or compiled dQUERY applications. Does this mean that the dBASE 2.21 runtime will run dBASE 2.5 Apps? I'm confused...
Thanks Trevor

 | Hi,
in dbase install the runtime files are also included in ...??\Runtime subfolder PlusRun.exe etc....
So it dont be installed on machine so its already done....
