For your newsgroups file: alt.binaries.newfoundlandlabrador Files for Newfoundland and Labrador people.
Charter: alt.binaries.newfoundlandlabrador provides a multimedia outlet for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as those interested in the province. On topic posts would include, but not be limited to, pictures taken within the province and audio files of general interest to the people of the province. This group would serve as an extension to the existing nf.* groups, i.e. to post a picture of an item for sale in nf.wanted, pictures of a flood mentioned in nf.general, or pictures of birds in question in nf.birds. Off topic posts are permitted in moderation, and should be designated with the characters, "OT:", in the subject header. Advertisements other than those from non-profit institutions, spam and illegal material is highly frowned upon and inappropriate for this group.
Justification: Discussed in alt.config 23-Feb-2003, nf.config Jan. 2003, nf.general 25-Jan-2003, free.nf.binaries Feb. 2003. Currently, there is no group available to all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that allow binary postings. All of the local nf.* groups do not and will not allow binaries to be posted. The creation of a nf.binaries group is not possible due to the small university server which moderates the nf.* groups. The free.nf.binaries group was created to help fill the void but was only added by one server in the province; the roadrunner.nf.net news server. Most news servers are configured to accept binaries posted in alt.binaries.* groups. Still this group has enjoyed over 274 posts since its inception a couple of weeks ago, regardless of its one server availability. The demand is high, which is exhibited in the nf.* groups with many mentions of the free.nf.binaries group, mostly of its unavailability amongst other news servers, the discussion in nf.config of the creation of a binaries group, and every day binaries are deleted from nf.* groups due to their noncompliance with the "no binaries" guidelines of the groups. This group would indeed have a local focus, but on the other hand be available to those outside the province who have a genuine interest in the province and its unique culture.
