 | Hi all,
I don't understand why there's no re-mapping functionnality in PUTTY.
When I read what's in this newsgroup, finally there's a lot of request
for that functionnality.
How could it become possible the make this available ? is it so
difficult to develop ?

| I'm sure any feature that is supposedly so heavily requested will make
it in eventually. Please remember that this is a free (as in beer)
product made in the authors' free time and as such they have to right
to concentrate on whatever aspect of the program they feel like. If
you need the feature so badly, then I suggest you either find another
solution (Cygwin comes to mind, although as I recall it's much more of
a bear to get configured - at least for someone used to WinGUI) or find
a way to contribute to getting the feature implemented (program it for
yourself or hire someone to write the code and send in the patch - I'm
no expert on this, but I'd be willing to bet that there's some open
source out there for other platforms like BSD that can form the basis
of this feature without fear of license issues).
Whatever you do, please be more considerate and appreciative of the
authors' time and energy when they are providing what is obviously such
a valuable product for free. Don't be so pushy or demanding - it's
kinda rude...

| Putty is *freeware*. It is developed either because the author has some
incentive to add a feature:
* s/he needs it for themselves
* s/he thinks it would be cool to do
* s/he wants to help someone out in their spare time
* s/he is paid
or because someone else has taken the source code, modified it to
support the desired functionality and contributed it back to the author.
If you cannot develop the functionality yourself will not pay the author
to develop it (assuming s/he wants to do it for money), then you should
look into other applications which do provide the functionality you require.
One application which does is Kermit 95.

Granted, the program has not been updated by Columbia for almost two
years but during its seven years of development it did acquire most of
the features that people desire in a secure terminal emulator. How
do I know this? Because not only was I the author of the program, I
use it on a daily basis to this day.
