 | Dear comp.programming, I'm a programmer myself, currently in college and I'm curious as to what motivates other people in this profession. Anyone care to volunteer an explanation their of feelings? Thanks, Aaron MacDonald

I've always liked helping people, been good at tinkering, and building things. I enjoy detail and design work, as well as helping people solve problems for which they think computers may be useful. I've done everything from application work, to system design, operating systems, embedded systems, networking, and telecommunications. I do it because it is fun for me and useful to my employers. There are plenty of opportunities out there once you find your niche.
Have fun,
David
