I have decided to come back, partly because of a responce Karl gave to some
one in uk.rec.scouting. Thank You Karl.

So, we had our last meeting, next week everyone has a Christmas thing with
the schools.

In the new year, we will be with another group. They have 2 leaders and 18
youth... parents there are always willing to stay(we may have some fishing
to do). I doubt all of my 5 youth will be out. I think, as it stands now, we
will have 3, at the max.

One question, which i will being up at our local scouters club, and at group
committee meeting -- those 2 youth that wont be there is because of
transportation, once i have a vehicle, would it be a bad idea to offer
transportation?

The other thing... which i asked in the other newsgroup... Is it ok to send
Christmas cards out to them? they all celebrate Christmas, and the cards are
not overly Christmassy. Would that be an abuse of personal information? In
the past, I have sent out cards to my fellow scouters.

Thanks,

Micheal Artindale

Micheal:

First: welcome back.
Second: Remember the two-deep rule. While I personally disagree with it,
consider the possibility of asking one of the other parents to assist
with transport. (In one of the Hazard Assessment courses I teach, we
call it "Transferring Responsibility")
Third: As far as Christmas cards are concerned - GO FOR IT! It is not a
violation of FOIPP as the parents gave you the information so you may
contact them. Is this not one method of contact?

Sorry, I forgot in my previous post:

You're welcome.

Welcome Back, Micheal.

I think you will have more fun with your larger group.

May I ask what your role is? Are you having fun?

As for the transport thing, don't worry about the two or so cubs who
cannot make it to the meetings. It's a tough fact of life that you
cannot do all for everyone. Concentrate on providing a great program
for the existing cubs. If the program is great, they will tell their
friends and new members will join.

Yes Michael, it is a very bad idea.
The outdoors guide is very clear that transport of kids to and from
Scouting activities is the parents responsibility. There is no rule
preventing them from offering you a ride though.

Who the hell cares what they are like? Even if they were all Wicca, Jews
and Muslims, they would still understand that you are celebrating Christmas
by sending your good wishes to all. I'm not sure why it is important to
you to be sending out cards to peope who apparently do not care very much
about their own kids, never mind you, but that's your business.
