See, if I was AC, the things that were Area events would be always the same date... or atleast the same time int eh month.. EG I know that in this area the Christmas Parade is the same weekend. I think it's the first in Dec. Once you know something like that, it doesnt matter, you now can plan that the 1st weekend in December, your group is doing something. Some areas are better at this than others... 1 out of the 3 i have been in.

 | I replied to Michael instead of the Group. My comments for all....
Remember, there are times when Troops, etc.. might want to camp on their own.
We have a major provincial camp every September, Operation Alert, for Troops and Companies. We have a major Regional camp every May, Fantasy Camp, for Troops. We always participate in these camps, and the Scouts look forward to them.
I find it easier to work to develop the camping skills of the youth in my Troop when we are on our own. We have more opportunities for our older youth to train the younger and we are not tied into someone else's schedule.
We work closely with our Company to provide them chances to work with the Scouts at camp.
I feel that 2 of our 6-8 camps per year is enough to give to Area/Regional/Provincial camps.
We provide service at two other camps. Troop provides a project for the Cubs at the Provincial Cub/Beaver camp in June(Lodges and Lairs) and we provide a weekend of service in our Regional camp, Camp Harris, this year we cleaned up a "rough" camp site that was trashed by Hurricane Juan.
This summer we have 14 of 15 Scouts going to the Provincial Jamboree in July for a week.
Our Troop always participates in the Scout-Guide Week activities, last year we set up a camp site in the mall with a lean-too, table and free-standing flagpole, all lashed together by the youth.
