There are several plausible sorts of deniability:
1. criminal: who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? They
knew perfectly well about Bush's crimes, but co-operate in denying
them because they feel part of the criminal conspiracy.
2. cult: those who are so brainwashed their logic is impaired.
3. ignorant: (does not apply here), people who have no interest in
politics.
What are the Republican debaters here?
(1) -- but why? They gain nothing from Bush's crimes. They are not
members of the elite. Perhaps they get some sadistic joy from the
tortures, rapes, and general bullying.
(2) -- seems most likely from the stereotyped mindless rebuttals they
give that remind you of the arguments of biblical inerrantists. But
HOW did they get so DEEPLY programmed? They are like Moonies they are
so impervious to reason. Yet, these people have not even been
subjected to boot camp. They postulate that Bush is good and therefore
anything bad about him must either be untrue or good after all. You'd
think someone had NLPed them all with opiates.

| They truly do not know it, or believe it, anyway. What doesn't fit in their
frame for what Republicans stand for "can't possibly be true" - and this is
when they actually even hear anything negative about Bush. I'm reading
"What's the Matter with Kansas?" I highly recommend it based on what I've
read so far. If you truly want to understand why someone would vote against
their own self-interest (not to mention vote for fascist liars), then it
seems like a good book to read.

No matter how much contempt you feel for such aggressive stupidity,
that is the nature of the opposition. To save the country, these
goofuses have to somehow be convinced to stop murdering kids.
We can think of it as like fighting sharks -- not very bright, but
plenty dangerous.
They seem to be unaffected by logic, but greatly influenced by
pageantry and theatre. They are quite reptilian in that regard.
When they do attempt logic, it is infantile level. we are so
contemptuous we scare them off trying to improve, and they refuse to
use it at all.
They think in terms of dominance. The are blindly obedience to the
ones they perceive as their leaders, and blindly hostile to anyone
those leaders sic them on. They are a bit a like attack dogs. The
make all their decisions based on WHO said something, not WHAT they
said.
I am extremely puzzled. What makes them bond with some leader so
fiercely? The odd thing is most of these people sound like working
class people, yet they are bound to a leader who represents the
interests of the elite. At what point in life does this bonding occur?
Is this very young like religion? Why is it so intense, and apparently
without conscious motivation.

Apparently not. The Republicans are feigning deafness on this issue.
That may be a sign they at least know they are weak. But it is not a
sign they are repenting.
