 | RAMALLAH, West Bank, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel Tuesday of planning fresh acts of violence against the Palestinians. Abbas said Israeli attacks against Palestinians resumed the very day he was sworn in as the new president, "indicating that Israel has premeditated plans of aggression." Abbas said the decision of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization to halt attacks against Israel was not the result of foreign pressure. "It is actually aimed at putting order in the Palestinian house and restoring security and safety for its citizens," he said. Abbas said Palestinian groups that opposed the decision should raise their objections at an Executive Committee meeting, not outside of it. In the meantime, Hamas expressed deep concern Tuesday over Abbas's order to Palestinian security agencies to stop all attacks against Israeli targets. Hamas official Khodor Habib said any truce or cease-fire with Israel should be linked to an end to Israeli aggression and Israel's withdrawal from Palestinian territories recaptured after the Palestinian uprising in September 2000. "There will be no free-of-charge truce for the Israelis ... There should be certain conditions," Habib said.
