 | GAZA CITY, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Israeli soldiers reportedly killed eight Palestinians and wounded 12, Saturday, as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was sworn into office. The Israeli army said Palestinians fired two Qassam rockets into Israel proper. One hit the town of Sderot where a 17 years old girl sustained critical head injuries. A mortar bomb hit the settlement of Netsarim wounding a boy. Moawiya Hassanein, director of the emergency section of al-Shifaa Hospital in Gaza City, said five Palestinians were killed and six were wounded in Gaza City's al-Zaytoon neighborhood, while two more were killed and six were wounded in Rafah. The Israeli army said it shot and hit two gunmen approaching its forces near Netsarim, south of Gaza City. Two more gunmen were shot while crawling in a restricted area near Kisufim. Israel's Ha'aretz newspaper reported two more Palestinians were shot when they approached the Termit outpost near Rapha. Palestinian police said Israeli forces supported by helicopters raided the coastal road of Gaza City, bulldozing agricultural land and firing at Palestinian homes. In Ramallah Saturday, Abbas reiterated his commitment to a just peace settlement and to the Road Map for peace in the Middle East.
