 | TEL AVIV, Israel, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Israel's High Court of Justice Thursday halted construction of part of the security barrier Israel was building in the West Bank. The court acted on an appeal by residents of Beit Surik, a Palestinian village northwest of Jerusalem, who said the barrier's route does not conform with court-ordered adjustments, the Haaretz newspaper's Web site reported. A temporary injunction ordered the state "to refrain from all uprooting of trees or orchards and digging, paving, leveling, construction or other preparations for the erecting of the separation fence" near nine villages. It gave the state seven days to respond. Last June the High Court of Justice disqualified part of the barrier's original route and the state changed 30 kilometers. The Palestinians appellants insisted the route still does not conform with the High Court ruling guidelines and Beit Surik residents said it does not conform with the International Court of Justice ruling, Haaretz reported.
