 | GAZA, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Four Palestinian militants and an Israeli civilian were killed in incidents in the West Bank and Gaza Wednesday, security and medical reports said. An Israeli was killed and four troops were wounded Wednesday morning when an explosive device went off along a patrol route near the settlement of Morag in the southern Gaza Strip, Israeli sources said. Two militants who carried out the attack were killed by IDF gunfire in the aftermath. One body was located near the scene of the bombing, while another militant was thought to have fled. Military forces later found his body, Haaretz reported. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack saying one militant blew himself up near an Israeli army jeep and the other was killed in an exchange of fire with the soldiers. In another incident, Israeli troops killed two Palestinians in the West Bank village of Qarwat Beni Zed northwest of Ramallah. Israel Radio reported the two dead were members of al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas armed wing. The gunfight broke out as Israeli soldiers attempted to arrest them. Also five Palestinians were detained at before dawn Wednesday when several armored vehicles backed by helicopters raided southern Gaza City, near the Jewish settlement of Nitzarim.
