 | GAZA, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Israeli forces opened fire at a Palestinian driver transporting foreign journalists at Erez crossing near Beit Hanoun in Gaza Monday, seriously injuring him. Palestinian security sources said Ayman Massoud was driving journalists who were in Gaza to cover the Palestinian presidential elections and had just dropped them at the crossing when he came under direct fire from troops manning the checkpoint. Witnesses said Massoud suffered serious abdominal injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. They said there was no obvious reason for the Israelis to open fire. It was the first incident since the elections in Gaza and the West Bank ended Sunday evening.
