Sorry all I think the last post screwed up anyway here is another try:

Hi all,

Not sure if any people saw this article in the SMH:

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/01/21/1106110943546.html

Basically about Greg Perry (ex-Colonial) returning to the funds
management scene with his "QED Absolute Plus" fund.

Anyway the themes sound good in the article. Real companies, boutique
fund, size cap, small investment team that owns the business, no asset
class restrictions etc etc.

Anyone know more about this or care to share their opinions on it? Or
for that matter how peasants like myself with less than $500K might
gain access to the fund?

These are all desireable features but there are a couple of dozen funds
with a mandate like that. What makes this one unique is Greg Perry.
He's considered something of a wunderkind but hasn't managed a fund
during a severe bear market yet so we don't know his track record
there.

The closest he came was while running a fund for Renouf Corporation
just before he went to First State. Renouf took a very large hit in
the crash of 87. Presumably this had some impact on Perry but since he
quit fund management before the bear market (we don't know if this is
because he saw the bear coming or because he just wanted a holiday) we
can't know what he did learn from it.

The article says it will have limited distribution, $500K minimum.
Probably it will not be available through wrap accounts.

I think the "peasants" will have to sit this one out.
