Technical question, and I hope it's appropriate for this forum.

OK. I was probably a bit silly, but when I was changing over speakers on my
amp, I forgot to turn it off and now the left channel isn't working.

It's a Rotel 1062 so it's pretty new. I think what happened was that the
metal banana plugs on one of the channels shorted together. I have been
running both A&B sides of the amp and the side that wasn't working may have
shorted while I was using the other.

Upshot is that the RH channel is working fine still but LH just does not
work on either A&B.

This amp has an auto- thermal cut off, but I would have thought that this
shuts off the entire amp, not just one channel.

I've waited for a while to see if it works after a rest, as they recommend,
but no go.

Any thoughts from the technical minded would be most appreciated. :-)

Appreciate your sound (no pun intended) advice and quick responses. It'd be
easy enough to replace fuse myself I imagine, but because it's under
warranty, will take it in and keep quiet about the cause and blame that
drunken family of mine :-) CJ

**Rotels are fuse protected, so that is the likely fault. Make certain you
use EXACTLY the same rating fuse and see how you go. If they blow again,
send off for service. A far better idea, would be send to an authorised
service guy, so it can be properly checked out. DON'T tell them you shorted
the speaker cables and you'll get it done for nothing. Just tell them it
stopped working one night, after your drunken brother/sister/father/mother
cranked the volume a little high.

And if the authorised service guy happens to read aus-hi.fi?

then they'd have to decide which one of the broken amps they got in today with blown
fuses and assorted other problems was the one talked about on here .. unless the OP
is silly enough to sign the service book in sheet "I Smell Smoke" ....

G'day,

One night the front left channel of my Rotel RMB-1075 just stopped
working. I think a fuse blew. I traded the 1075 for a 1095 and have not
had any problems with it.

Replacing the fuse should be easy, but ask your dealer.

And I second Trevor's advice that you do not mention anything about
changing speakers. It just happened, okay :-)

Or I could just concoct a really cunning and completely different story ;-)

Maybe it has a fuse inside for each channel?
