Hi All,

I'm new to these parts so a big howdy to you everyone.

I'm about to start auditioning some floorstanders in the $2K-$2.5K
region & I have a short list & I was wondering if anyone had any other
suggestions they'd like to add? (I was trying to keep it mostly Oz made
in the hope of maximizing my buck but I'm not set on it).

Orpheus Aurora 3
Krix Symphonix
Legend Kama 4
Wharfedale Evo 30
Vaf DC-X

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Oh, I'll be usind a NAD C372 (150W) to drive them in a fairly large
room, while listening to mostly
rock-folk-blues-acoustic/electric-alt'-etc and hopefully grinning
stupidly.

I'm not a big Krix or Wharfedale fan, but I did like the Aurora 3, the
DC-X, and the Kama 4.

I'd also recommend checking out the Equinox Audio Aphelion for $2800:

I had this speaker for a week's demo at home and it was beaut.

Well, if you're listening to the DC-X, do have a go of the DC-7s as
well. Smaller, cheaper, but still a great sound - possibly smoother in
the mids, but not as much bass extension.

Have a listen to some Aaron, Whatmough and SuBsonic.
Aaron: http://members.westnet.com.au/betetec/
Whatmough: http://www.whatmough.com.au/
SuBsonic: http://www.subsonic.com.au/

I auditioned a range of these speakers you're looking at, and the ones
mentioned above, and my favourite two were the Orpheus and the VAF. I
ended up purchasing the VAF DC-7s and am totally happy with them.
You've got some good speakers on your list here and while I'm sure
you'd be happy with just about any of them, some carefull listening
will reveal a favourite or two in there for you.

Cheers,
Kai

Just to provide some international comparison, you could check out the
Tannoy S8s. That is not necessarily a recommendation. Also, I wouldn't
dismiss the possibility of a sub + bookshelf combo. One advantage there
is that if you get the integration right you can have your cake and eat
it too, ie, bass plus mid-range smoothness plus within budget.
