 | These look pretty good. Something to plug the PowerBook into when not near the stereo, or even something to run the PC through with a pair of Dick Smith specials...
Does anyone know of an Aussie importer/reseller of these units?
Cheers, Kai

9w @ 10%THD and 8 AAA batteries. I am rapidly losing interest in it ;-)

You should read the articles and take a look at the manufacturer's site for the specifications. This IC operates like many analogue op amp types in terms of distortion vs. output power. Distortion is very low until just on the onset of maximum output power, where it rises rapidly. At just a fraction over 9 watts RMS into 4 ohms, the THD+N at 1kHz is typically less than 0.04% (see the performance graph at - http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/sonicimpact/t.html ).
For a portable amplifier it wins on efficiency, size and weight. At powers up to 9 watts per channel from a 12 volt source the chip needs no heatsinking and the efficiency approaches an incredible 90% at full power into 8 ohms. Full tech details are available at - http://www.tripath.com/downloads/TA2024.pdf
I believe one of the Bel Canto integrated amps uses the same technology from the same chip manufacturer.
Cheers, Alan
