I have a copy of Passions of the Christ and there is a narration the whole
way through the movie.
I have seen another copy which doesn't have this annoying feature.
It is bad enough to have sub-titles with voice, but the two running together
is annoying.
I can get rid of the sub-titles, but,
My question to the learned is:
How do I get rid of the narration ?
I came across a narration on another DVD a while ago and I was able to get
rid of it, but I can't remember how I did it as it was so long ago

There should be a button on your DVD remote for switching audio channels.
Use that to cycle through Dolby 5.1 (works on all DVD players) DTS (works on
some DVD players, but sounds better than Dolby) and "Descriptive" (the
narration track.)

Or, go to the main menu and select Dolby 5.1 or DTS. (Try DTS. If your DVD
is only capable of playing Dolby, you simply won't get any sound on the
DTS.)

Also, you can switch off the subtitles. (Use the remote to switch between
"English," "English for the Hearing Impaired" and "None." Or, use the menu
to select "No Subtitles")

In case you were wondering; the "English Language Descriptive," audio track
is presumably for the benefit of the blind or visually impaired. I've also
noticed it on "Frida" and "Kill Bill Volume 2"

Thanks to all but it is still there after trying everything, maybe it is
embedded into the DVD and I just can't get rid of it,
but I don't really know why I am bothering with it, I don't like the movie

Is this a copy? Maybe the the wrong audio track was selected when it was

Use dvd decrypter. Takes off all the subtitle junk. Every dvd that I
have bought has subtitles turned on. They must think we are all deaf.
Find it annoying to have to turn the subtitles off before playing each
time so I make a copy and have the subtitles taken off along with all
the credits.

Without the "subtitle junk" in that particular movie, you're not going to
be able to understand much unless you happen to speak a couple of ancient
languages...

Your player is obviously set up to display subtitles by default. It's not
the DVDs' fault, it's good old fashioned user error.

Actually, one of the reasons I wanted to get this film on DVD was to watch
it without subtitles (Gibson originally intended for it to be shown this
way, but later changed his mind.) Most of the movie is perfectly easy to
follow (and still thoroughly engaging.) Although, during some of the longer
dialogue scenes I found myself destracted by wondering, specifically, what
they were saying (especially in the Latin scenes, were one tends to pick up
the occasional word ("Rex" meaning "King," "Veritas" meaning "Truth," etc.))
Certainly worth watching at least once without the sub-titles (ideally, on
your first viewing. (I had previously seen the movie in theatres (were I was
able to derive a certain conceited amusement from the fact that the Cinema
felt it necessary to post signs warning ticket-buyers that the film
contained sub-titles.)

True, but some films have the subtitles imbedded as part of the video and
therefore can't be removed. I will however add that this is a rarity and
not the norm for DVD. The equivalent is like watching a foreign language
film on SBS. Selecting "TEXT OFF" on your digital STB doesn't get rid of
the subtitles.

good point, tho one hopes with digital TV you will be able to turn of subtitles

You may well roll on the floor, but if you read my first post, you will see
that I have already done that and there have been one or two people who have
tried to help me, but with your reply, it is becoming obvious that you and
others have no intention of helping at all, you are just replying to try and

Footy facts claims he/she is a consultant/engineer in this field. I'd
hate to have him/her come out to fix any of my gear.

Have you tried dvd decrypter or dvd shrink?
