I wouldn't depend on a local release for
the Royle Family. Season 1 is listed on
many sites as deleted in the UK.

Luckily Sendit.com have a good price on
the box set. The discs are R2 only but I
don't think that should be a problem

Including postage, it's actually cheaper at Bensons (£15.99) than Sendit
(£19.19).

I wasn't aware of Benson's 'new' site, the box set isn't listed on their
old 'hyphenated' site (http://www.bensons-world.co.uk). Also
my understanding of their postage is 'per disc'. i.e. postage would
be £3.00, still cheaper but not a dramatic difference.

A few years ago Benson's were my first point of reference but then
they seemed to lose their pricing competetivness and started charging
freight for OS orders. Now Amazon UK seems to be best 9 times out
of 10 (for region 2) in spite of their freight charges. If a price seems a
little high, just wait a few months. Some box sets especially often come
through at almost give-away prices.

I agree with everything you say, and usually buy R2 box sets off Amazon, but
in this case they were significantly dearer when I checked (about £23), and
Benson's only charged me £1 for postage when I ordered just before posting
above.

They must have finally seen sense on charging "per disc" for overseas
orders!

The R2 boxset for Royle Family (I think listed under the Complete Royle
Family) is quite cheap for the 3 discs. I got mine a fortnight or so ago.
Not to bad, the video quality isn't great but watchable considering how
funny it is.

Why is it so damn expensive though? Compared to something like Firefly (15
hourlong eps) which was half the price. Carnivale is only 12 episodes a
season. For the price it is you'd expect the usual 22 (or 2 separate
seasons).

It's worth the price, IMO. I'm biased towards HBO series, but this one is
excellent. I bought the R1 copy.

Yes, have all available series of Oz, Six Feet Under, Sopranos, have ordered
Deadwood but watched the first series on Fox, The Wire. All excellent.
Actually, HBO series are the first and only series' I have ever watched.

Deadwood has already screened on Showtime here. It's very good, but a
once only watch for me.

HBO normally price their sets high, I guess they're pricing it as a
premium product.

UK (R2) release is listed as 7 March. If you're lucky
maybe there will be an R4 release around the same time.
